Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiyev has accepted the resignation of Foreign Minister Ednan Karabaev, news agency AKIpress reported on January 16. Sources in the ministry said Karabaev would likely be moved to another position within the administration and that his departure did not mark an exit from government, the report said. Separately, Medet Sadyrkulov, Bakiyevs former chief-of-staff, has denied rumors that he had had been appointed Ministry of Foreign Affairs top job. In an interview with the news agency January 15, he claimed he was aware of the proposal but had not been officially offered the post.
