Azerbaijani lawmakers called for US President Barack Obama to veto Congress's plans to provide roughly $8 million in aid to breakaway Nagorno-Karabakh, the News.az news service reported on December 17.
In an appeal adopted by parliament late on December 15, the Milli Majlis said it is puzzled that its US counterpart described the assistance package as humanitarian aid, but does not plan to send it to Baku, even though Washington recognizes Karabakh as part of Azerbaijan. The lawmakers described the aid as moral support for the separatists who control Nagorno-Karabakh and argued that it will complicate resolution of the conflict over the territory.
