Anthony Pahigian, deputy director of the US State Department’s Office of European Security and Political Affairs, gave an informal lecture at the Open Society Institute in New York on February 24, 2010.
In an exclusive Eurasianet interview held after the lecture, Pahigian described the US State Department's official position on some of the issues brought up by Kazakhstan's chairmanship of the Operation for the Security and Cooperation in Europe. He began by addressing criticism leveled at the US by the imprisoned Kazakhstani human rights activist Yevgeniy Zhovtis.
