UK-based artist Ruth Maclennan has just wrapped up shooting her latest short film in Kazakhstan. Set in the desert outside Almaty, it tells the story of two people, a prospector and an archaeologist, who happen to be in the desert but looking for entirely different things, inhabiting the same space but viewing it in divergent ways.
This is the fourth film that Maclennan has shot in Kazakhstan. Her first visit to Almaty in spring 2006 resulted in Valley of Castles (Hunting Eagles), a film which followed eagle hunters from Nura, in Almaty Region. Later in 2006 she shot Capital on location in Astana, where she explored her her impressions of Kazakhstan’s new capital.
