The chief of Ashgabat's police department has been sacked and the head of the anti-drugs agency reprimanded.
Police Maj. Avdy Atanyyazov was relieved of his duties "for grave shortcomings in his work" and dismissed without "privileges provided for officers of law enforcement bodies under the current legislation of Turkmenistan," according to the state-run broadcaster Altyn Asyr.
Separately, the head of the national anti-narcotics agency, Aman Garayev, received a "strong reprimand" for "unsatisfactory organization of propagation work against drugs trafficking and for weakening control of the struggle against illegal use of narcotic substances," the news report added.
Garayev, a former Deputy Minister for National Security, was appointed head of the drugs agency in July.
