Ashgabat Hosted International Meeting on Assistance to Afghanistan
Turkmenistan’s Foreign Ministry hosted a meeting to discuss a Plan of Action titled “Regional Infrastructure" drafted by Turkmenistan as part of the confidence-building measures to assist Afghanistan. The national coordinators and representatives from Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkey, Italy, Germany, UK, USA, and Turkmenistan, as well as representatives from UN agencies participated in the meeting. Heads of the diplomatic missions accredited to Turkmenistan and representatives of the national and international mass media attended.

President of Turkmenistan receives UK Prime Minister’s Special Envoy
President Berdymukhamedov received the UK Prime Minister’s Special Trade Envoy for Turkmenistan, Charles Hendry. Great Britain’s Ambassador to Turkmenistan, Keith Rennie Alan, and Co-chairman of the Turkmen-British Trade and Industry Council Ronald Nash also attended the meeting. Berdymukhamedov and his guests discussed cooperation in the fuel and energy sector, trade-economic and transportation spheres, communication, education, and health as priority areas. They also talked about organizing the V Asian Indoor Games and Martial Arts to be held at the Olympic Village in Ashgabat in 2017.

Turkmen-British Sports Forum Held in Ashgabat
The National Institute of Sports and Tourism of Turkmenistan hosted the Turkmen-British sports forum to discuss preparations for the V Asian Indoor Games and Martial Arts to be held in 2017 at the Olympic Village being built in Ashgabat and was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the State Sports Committee, and National Olympic Committee. Representatives from the ministries of economy and development, finance, communications, trade and foreign economic activities, construction, health and medical industry, culture, education, the Central Bank, the administration of the city Ashgabat, the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs and others attended the forum. The UK delegation, led by UK Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy Charles Hendry, was composed of representatives of the leading British companies, such as British expertise, Arup, Event Planning Group, Loughborough College, Pinsent Masons LLP, PMP Legacy, and Rapiscan Systems Ltd.

President of Turkmenistan receives OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Foreign Minister of Ukraine
President Berdymukhamedov received the OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Leonid Kozhara. Ambassador of Ukraine to Turkmenistan Valentin Chevalev also attended the meeting. Berdymukhamedov and Kizhara discussed development of interstate cooperation in bilateral and multilateral formats, including through the OSCE, which is currently chaired by Ukraine. They also noted that Turkmenistan and Ukraine, being the members of the OSCE, can cooperate to increase the role of the OSCE in ensuring security of energy resources transit.

EU: Negotiating on Trans-Caspian gas pipeline ongoing
EU, Azerbaijan, and Turkmenistan continue their negotiations on the construction of the Trans-Caspian gas pipeline, a source in the Energy Department of the European Commission told Trend.az on Friday. "Negotiations are on-going," the source said, adding that no agreements have been reached yet. Negotiations between Turkmenistan and the EU and other countries on the construction of the Trans-Caspian gas pipeline have been on-going since the late 90s.

Turkmenistan’s Foreign Ministry Prepares President’s Visit to Japan
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan received Mr. Miyashita Tadayuki, Head of the Division for Central Asia and the Caucasus of the Department of European Affairs of Japan. According to the press service of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry, the main focus of the talks was preparations for President Berdymukhamedov’s visit to Japan in the first half of this year.

Turkmenistan Considers Proposals of Japanese companies
President Berdymukhamedov instructed the government to consider proposals from Japanese partners and their participation in prospective joint projects in various fields, reported Turkmen government. Recent talks with representatives of Japanese business circles focused on possible joint investment projects in the petrochemical, gas processing, engineering, electrical, and other industries. Berdymukhamedov’s official visit to Tokyo in 2009 gave a new impulse to the relationship between Japan and Turkmenistan and resulted in the signing of intergovernmental agreements and contracts with Japanese companies such as JGC Corporation, ITOCHU Corporation, Kawasaki Plant Systems, Ltd, Sojitz Corporation, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Mitsubishi Corporation and Asahi Kasei Chemicals Corporation. A number of projects in Turkmenistan are implemented with the financial support of the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC). Japanese companies participate in Fuel and Energy Sector modernization projects, in particular they work on the country's largest oil refinery in Turkmenbashi, where the total cost of modernization amounts to $1.6 billion.

Turkmenistan-Japan: cooperation in the sphere of education
The teachers and students of the Department of Eastern Languages of D. Azadi Turkmen National Institute of World Languages studying Japanese language met with a delegation from the University of Tsukuba, Japan led by Pro-rector Mr. Yutaka Tsujinaka.. The main goal of the meeting was to learn the methods of teaching Eastern languages at the Turkmen institute, and to discuss future cooperation through educational exchanges.

President: Turkmenistan Strengthens Relations with Iran
At a governmental meeting in which preparations to hold the seventh specialised exhibition of Iranian goods in Turkmenistan was on the agenda, President Berdymukhamedov said he is confident that relations with Iran are strengthening, adding that the development of mutually beneficial trade and economic relations with Iran is a priority for Turkmenistan.
