Dubai Hosted International Conference Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan – 2013
Dubai hosted a two-day international conference "Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan-2013" organized by Turkmenistan’s Ministry of Oil and Gas and Mineral Resources and Turkmenistan’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Members of Turkmenistan’s delegation and more than 200 managers, scientists and experts representing more than 100 oil and gas companies from nearly 30 countries attended the event, including Exxon Mobil, Shell, BP, CNPS, Petronas, Dragon Oil, Hyundai Engineering Co., LG International, RWE Dea AG, Wintershall Holding GmbH, Schlumberger and the US State Department. Turkmen delegates stressed that Turkmenistan has a clear goal to diversify the supplies of Turkmen natural gas and establish a reliable and stable system of exports of energy resources to the international markets. Turkmenistan plans to commission the country's largest gas field Galkynysh in the summer of 2013, the Turkmen authorities reported during the conference. According to Turkmenistan’s mass media, citing Gaffney, Cline & Associates (UK), Galkynysh is the second largest field in the world with its reserves of fossil fuels estimated at 26.2 trillion cubic meters.

Presidents of Turkmenistan and Belarus Speak by Phone
President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov and President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenka spoke by phone to discuss cooperation, and in particular, the construction of a mining and processing complex for production of potash fertilizers in Lebap province of Turkmenistan near the Garlyk potash deposit. The Belarusian company Belgorkhimprom is the main contractor for this project, which is worth more than $US 1 billion with an expected capacity of 1,400,000 tons of potash fertilizers per year. Berdymukhamedov invited Lukashenko to visit Turkmenistan. The dates of the visit will be coordinated through diplomatic channels.

Presidents of Turkmenistan and Armenia Spoke by Phone
President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov and President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan spoke by phone at the initiative of the Turkmen leader to discuss bilateral relations and cooperation. During the conversation, the heads of state called for the intensification of partnership in trade, transportation, energy and other areas.

Presidents of Turkmenistan and Tajikistan Speak by Phone
President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov and President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon spoke by phone to discuss priority areas of cooperation, including in the trade and economic, energy, transport and communication sectors. Berdymukhamedov noted that Turkmenistan is interested in Tajikistan’s initiative to build and connect the railways of the two countries in the territory of neighboring Afghanistan.

Ashgabat Hosted Great Silk Road International Conference
The Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan hosted an international conference titled “Diplomacy of the Great Silk Road: From History to Future,” organized by the Turkmen Foreign Ministry, in cooperation with the Turkish Agency for Cooperation and Coordination under the Prime Minister of Turkey. Representatives of the National Institute of Democracy and Human Rights and the Institute of State and Law under the President of Turkmenistan, as well as diplomatic missions accredited in Turkmenistan, international organizations and UN agencies, and specialists of foreign research centers attended the event. The main theme of the reports delivered at the conference was the role of diplomacy in reviving the Great Silk Road.

Turkmenistan to Develop Tourism Cooperation within CIS
On March 15, Moscow hosted a meeting of the Tourism Council of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) with the participation of experts from the World Tourism Organization. Turkmenistan sent a representative to take part in the event, which focused on the prospects of tourism development in the CIS. Participants discussed the draft Strategy for the Development of the Integration Processes in Tourism for the period of 2020 and the plan of activities to mark the Year of Tourism in the Commonwealth of Independent States in 2014.

Turkmenistan Tourism Industry Presented in Baku
On March 14, the Turkmen Embassy in Baku, Azerbaijan, hosted a presentation entitled “Turkmenistan's Tourism” within the framework of the program “Development of tourism in Turkmenistan in 2012 – 2016.” Representatives of Azerbaijan’s Culture and Sports Ministry, Azerbaijan’s Tourism Institute, tour operators, and journalists attended.

Turkmenistan Held Regional Forum on Caspian Environment
Turkmenistan’s Avaza resort on the Caspian hosted a regional seminar entitled “The Caspian Sea - Sustainable Development and Management” organized by Turkmenistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the State Institute for the Caspian Sea under the President of Turkmenistan, in cooperation with the International Ocean Institute (IOI). The heads and specialists of ministries, agencies and environmental institutions of Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia, as well as international experts, participated in the event. Seminar themes and discussion topics included international legal norms in the field of exploration and exploitation of oil and gas resources, protection of marine biology, navigation control and development of maritime trade, transport, ports, ship registration, and fishing.

Turkmenistan Studies US Experience in Sports Sector
Turkmenistan's State Sports Committee received former US Olympic winners Robert Powers and Daniel Beery, who came to Ashgabat to establish cooperation between the US and Turkmenistan in the area of sports. The discussion focused on preparations for the Olympic Games and the 5th Asian Games to be held in Ashgabat in 2017.

Turkmen Bank Senagat Received Prize in Switzerland
At the Century International Quality ERA Convention held in Geneva under the auspices of Business Initiative Directions, Turkmen joint-stock commercial bank Senagat received the Century International Quality ERA Award in the Gold Category for excellence in leadership and business management, and the use of technologies and innovations. The certificate was presented to representatives of Senagat Bank.

Turkmenistan’s Parliament passed the resolution “On ratification of the Convention between Turkmenistan and the Swiss Confederation on avoidance of double taxation with respect to taxes on income and on capital.”

Turkmenistan Rated as Country with Medium Level of Human Development
UNDP published its regular Report on Human Development which analyzes various living conditions and indicators such as life expectancy, education, and income in 187 countries of the world, and placed Turkmenistan in the list of 47 countries with a medium level of human development, together with China, Thailand, Mongolia, Egypt, Indonesia, Vietnam, Iraq, Moldova, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and others.  Source: gundogar.org, hdr.undp.org  

UNICEF Held Talks at Turkmenistan's Foreign Ministry
UNICEF Regional Director for Asia, Eastern Europe, and the CIS, Marie-Pierre Poirier, held talks at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and participated in the mid-term review meeting of the joint country program of cooperation between the Government of Turkmenistan and the UN Children's Fund for 2010-2015.

Turkmenistan to Take Part in International Equestrian Exhibition in Germany
The German city of Essen hosted the World Equestrian Sports Fair “Equitana 2013.” Turkmenistan sent a delegation consisting of heads of the State Committee for Sports, the Turkmen Atlary State Association, equestrian sports complexes, veterinarians, horse breeders, horse trainers and other experts. The main aim of Turkmenistan's participation was to learn about innovations and achievements in the sector and present Turkmenistan’s horse industry and the prospects for promoting equestrian sport and horse tourism in the country to the international community.
