Tajikistan: Dushanbe Seeks Greater Regional Cooperation on Narcotics Trafficking
Tajik authorities are calling for closer regional cooperation against drugs trafficking. Interior Minister Abdurahim Kakharov recently described the current level of cooperation as "clearly insufficient."
"It is time to establish a modern telecommunications automated information system [connecting] law enforcement agencies in Central Asia. This would solve many of our interaction problems and ensure the timely transmission of relevant information," the Afghanistan.ru news website quoted Kakharov as saying on November 4.
Kakharov made the comments during a meeting of law enforcement officials from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, sponsored by the German government and the UN Office on Drugs and Crime. The event was also attended by law-enforcement officers from Russia, China, Europe and the United States.
