Vice-Premier N.Atakuliev Receives Reprimand
President Berdymukhamedov issued a strict reprimand during the June 15 Cabinet meeting to Vice-Premier Nokerkuli Atakuliev for failing to secure sufficient production of silk cocoons.
Turkmen Academy of Sciences Receives $10 million
President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov instructed the Central Bank to allocate $10 million to the Academy of Sciences of the country from the state budget, the official Turkmen source said. The resolution seeks "further augmentation of scientific capacity, wide introduction of the latest scientific achievements, implementation of projects and measures for the achievement of tasks for the advancement of science."
State Committee of Turkmenistan for Tourism and Sport to Launch New Newspapers and Magazines
As of July 2012, Turkmenistan’s State Committee for Tourism and Sport will start producing the weekly newspaper Türkmen Sporty (Turkmen sport). In addition, the State Committee will close the scientific magazine “Syýahatçylyk we sport” and establish two new magazines – “Bedenterbiýe we sport” (Physical Culture and Sports) and “Syýahat” (Tourism). The magazines will be printed once every two months in Turkmen, English, and Russian.
Turkmen Authorities Are Growing More Nervous
In an article for gundogar.org, Berdymurad Ovezov, says that the Turkmen authorities are growing more afraid of retaliation from former officers of the Presidential Security Service fired and humiliated by President Berdymukhamedov. The authorities take extreme measures to secure their safety. For example, roads are closed 3-4 hours in advance of the presidential motorcade passing, while previously they were blocked only one hour in advance. The number of presidential security officers placed along the main road during the motorcade passing has increased twofold.
