U.S. Embassy Seminar on WTO Accession Process
A four-day seminar entitled “Initial Steps for WTO Accession” commenced on September 18 in Turkmenistan’s national resort Avaza. Representatives of 20 Turkmen government entities took part in this event, which was organized by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. The seminar focused on initial steps in accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO) and covered such topics as the benefits and main stages of the accession process, other countries’ experiences, agreements on market access for goods and services, and other agreements on barriers to trade, intellectual property rights, agriculture subsidies, investment measures, etc.

Australian Ambassador Holds Talks at Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan
Australian Ambassador at Large William Fisher held talks at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, according to the press service of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry. The talks covered regional and international issues and consolidation of efforts in the fight against common threats and challenges.

President of Turkmenistan Receives Heads of Indo-Turkmenistan Friendship Society
President Berdymukhamedov received Mohammed Afzal, the Trustee of the Indo-Turkmenistan Friendship Society and the official representative of the Congress Party of India and Gopinath Menon, the President of the Indo-Turkmenistan Friendship Society and senior adviser of Panacea Biotec company who presented him with the Hindi edition of his book “Medicinal Plants of Turkmenistan” to be published in India shortly.
During the meeting, the President of Turkmenistan and the heads of the Indo-Turkmenistan Friendship Society discussed the priority tasks in researching, preserving and multiplying the common cultural values of the Turkmen and Indian people and their national cultures.
The parties also noted that the two countries are strategic partners in Turkmenistan – Afghanistan – Pakistan – India (TAPI) pipeline project.

Member of Turkmenistan's Islamic Party Detained in Yekaterinburg
Police authorities in Yekaterinburg (Sverdlovsk region, Russia) detained an active member of a radical terrorist organization, Turkmenistan’s Islamists Party, whose activity is illegal in Russia. According to the press service of Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, law-enforcement officers who conducted the operation, discovered that the 34 year-old man was involved in recruiting new members. They found ephedrine-based drugs and a RGD-5 grenade with a fuse, containing about 115 grams of explosives in his possession.
