Untangling a Turkish Murder's Wicked Web
The gruesome 2007 murder of three Christian missionaries in the Turkish city of Malatya was one of the more disturbing crimes in the country in recent years. Although five young local men were arrested for torturing and killing the three, there was always a strong suspicion that the crime had links to a wider network of ultranationalist groups in Turkey and even to certain circles within the country's police force.A new report by the European Stability Initiative, called "Murder in Antaolia," takes a hard look at the case and tries to answer some of the big unanswered questions it has raised. The report (found here) is highly recommended for anyone interested in learning more about the case and what it represents. More background details on the murder can be found here.
