Uzbekistan: Primitive Conditions for Children in Cotton Fields
Recent photos obtained by the Uzbek-German Forum for Human Rights expose the starkly primitive living conditions for children laboring in the cotton harvest in Uzbekistan.
These photos, taken in October in Kashkadarya region, Uzbekistan show that children as young as 12 in this area are picking cotton and living in rough conditions for weeks during the harvest.
They are forced to sleep together in groups in rooms with only cardboard placed on the floor, with blankets they have brought from home. Their clothes are placed in bags along the wall.
They do their own cooking with provisions from home. To wash, they make do with plastic bowls tacked to a log, and have to use outhouses.
